Before you plead guilty and pay your traffic tickets make sure you know ALL of the possible consequences

Many drivers make the mistake of simply sending back their tickets with a guilty plea and pay the fines. Unfortunately, some traffic violations carry more severe penalties than just fines. Those drivers later get a notice from PennDOT notifying them of points on their license, or even worse, a license suspension. Call The Law Office of Brian McDermott now at 412-407-7023 for a FREE consultation so you can learn of all the possible outcomes and how we can help you avoid them.

DRIVING W/ SUSPENDED LICENSE

If found guilty of driving with a suspended license the penalties include a fine and a license suspension. However, if your license was suspended because of a DUI then there is a mandatory jail sentence. Attorney McDermott has been successful in having these charges withdrawn or reduced. Even in situations where that is not possible McDermott Defense will aggressively pursue Electronic Home Monitoring in lieu of jail time.

POINT SYSTEM

In Pennsylvania certain traffic violations impose points on your driving license. You can find a list of those offenses here. After accumulation of 6 points for the first time, the driver will receive a written notice to take a special written point examination. The second time a driver reaches 6 or more points, they will have to attend a Departmental Hearing. That hearing could result in a 15 day license suspension or the driver having to take a special driver’s examination. The third or subsequent time a driver reaches 6 or more points, the driver will have to attend a departmental hearing. The department will then determine if a 30 day license suspension will be initiated. Failure to attend this departmental hearing will result in the suspension of the driver’s license until the driver attends the hearing.
